CUSTOM WRISTBAND COLORS

What Does That Wristband Color Mean? Ask the Wearer

Custom silicone wristbands are available in a wide variety of colors to denote many causes. With lots of colors out there, representing so many different causes, how is it possible to tell which worthy cause a specific wristband is supposed to represent?

That's easy. Just ask the person wearing it. If you really want to know, that's become the only way to know for sure. Yes, it's true that a few custom wristband colors have only one commonly accepted meaning - pink wristbands for breast cancer awareness, or the yellow "Livestrong" band to represent cancer awareness in general. But the vast majority of wristband colors represent multiple causes.

A red wristband, for example, could mean the wearer is trying to raise awareness of heart disease, AIDS, leukemia and lymphoma, diabetes or drug-free living, to name just a few possibilities. A purple wristband could represent cancer awareness, Alzheimeimer's disease awareness or opposition to animal abuse.

The one that started it all, the yellow "Livestrong" custom wristband, is one of only a few exclusive colors. Introduced in 2004 by professional cyclist Lance Armstrong and Nike, the bright yellow color was chosen to represent the yellow jersey traditionally worn by the leader of the Tour de France. Armstrong, a cancer survivor, promoted the wristband as a fundraiser for cancer research. In just six years, the yellow wristband has raised millions of dollars for the cause.

Seeing the immense worldwide success of the yellow wristband, other organizations quickly joined in, each with their own color scheme. But with only so many colors available, colors soon began overlapping. In addition, some questionable custom wristband suppliers have been known to make up their own meanings, such as saying black wristbands are a symbol of "Amish support."

Realistically, the ONLY way to know what a particular color wristband represents is to ask the person wearing it. If they're wearing the wristband, they believe in the organization or cause it represents, and most likely will be happy to tell you what cause they're supporting by wearing a custom wristband. Once you hear the explanation, you might even decide to join them and order your own custom wristband.
